Product Basics
What is BoltMate?
BoltMate is an automotive paint marker for color-coding bolts, wires, and parts during disassembly. You mark two connected parts with the same color. On reassembly, you match the colors, so every part goes back to its correct place without guesswork.
How does BoltMate work?
Before you take parts apart, mark two connected pieces with the same color. Work through the job. On reassembly, match the colors and each part returns to its spot. When you finish, wipe the marks off with a cloth.
What comes in a pack?
Each BoltMate pack holds 12 high-visibility markers in a random color mix. The bright range gives you plenty of colors to pair up parts on any job. Each marker has a 2 to 3 mm fiber tip and quick-dry ink.
Why are the colors random?
BoltMate ships 12 high-visibility colors in a random mix. You still get a wide, bright range for matching parts within a job. Matching a pair of connected parts works with any two colors, so a random set does the job well.
How long does one marker last?
Each BoltMate marker is made to last through many jobs, depending on how much you mark and the surface. For most mechanics, one marker covers plenty of teardowns. Heavy daily users go through them faster, but each one performs from the first stroke to the last.
Using BoltMate
How do I use BoltMate during a teardown?
Mark two connected parts with the same color before you remove them. Do this for each set of parts you take apart. On reassembly, match the colors back together. This gives you a clear visual map of where everything belongs.
How long does the ink take to dry?
BoltMate ink dries in seconds on smooth surfaces. The quick-dry formula helps stop smearing and smudging as you work. Give it a moment on cooler or slick surfaces, then handle the part as normal.
Will the marks survive oil and grease?
Yes. BoltMate marks hold through oil and grease while you work, so your color code stays readable during the job. They are made to last through the teardown, then wipe off cleanly when you are done.
Surfaces
What surfaces can I use BoltMate on?
BoltMate works on hard, non-porous surfaces. Mark bolts, nuts, brackets, metal, hard plastic, rubber hoses, and glass. The bright ink shows up well even on dark steel and oily parts.
What surfaces should I avoid?
Avoid porous surfaces like bare wood, cardboard, or raw concrete. The ink soaks in and will not wipe off cleanly. Also avoid internal engine parts, sealing faces, and threads that seat into sealed assemblies, where any residue is a concern.
Can I use BoltMate on wiring and hoses?
Yes. BoltMate works well on wire insulation, connectors, rubber hoses, and fittings. Color-code both ends of a connection before you disconnect it. On reassembly, match the colors so every wire and hose goes back correctly.
Removal
Do BoltMate marks come off?
Yes. BoltMate marks are non-permanent. They wipe off with a dry or damp cloth and rinse away with water. For electrical parts, use an electrical contact cleaner. The marks hold through oil and grease while you work, then clean off after.
Are BoltMate markers permanent?
No. BoltMate is made to be temporary. The marks stay visible during the job, then wipe or wash off when you are done. For a permanent mark that stays for good, a permanent industrial marker is the better choice.
Will rain or water wash the marks off?
Yes. BoltMate is non-permanent, so water, rain, and washing will remove the marks. This is by design. Use BoltMate for indoor teardown and reassembly work where you want the marks gone when the job is finished.
Safety
Is BoltMate safe to use in a closed shop?
Yes. BoltMate ink is xylene-free, toluene-free, lead-free, and low-odor. It meets ASTM safety standards, so you can use it in the shop or a confined space during regular professional use.
Is the ink toxic?
BoltMate ink is xylene-free, toluene-free, and lead-free. It is low-odor and meets ASTM safety standards. As with any marker, avoid skin and eye contact with wet ink, and keep it away from children. Wash hands after heavy use.
